During his adulthood, Roosevelt explored new ideas and thoughts. After Roosevelt’s wife and mother died on the same day, he thought it would be a good idea to spend time alone, so he moved out west to the Dakotas. While in Dakota, he would spend most of his time on his ranch in the hot sun. He also got into fights at bars with other customers. He also explored different areas of the U.S. government. In 1899, Roosevelt became the governor of New York. Earlier, He joined the New York State Assembly and went to law school to learn more about how the U.S. government worked. Though before any of this he explored the U.S. Army and joined the “Rough Riders”. The “Rough Riders” fought in the Spanish-American War and were a big part of the victory for the United States. They were most known for their victory at San Juan Hill. If Roosevelt had not explored new ideas, he would have been looked at differently..
